Learn to make better business decisions and find novel solutions by considering social and ecological aspects of our complex world.  

What concepts and strategies affect how businesses engage with stakeholders in the 21st Century? How can businesses make better decisions for a greener future? How can businesses across various sectors use ethical reasoning and scientific decision-making to address the complexities and broad scope of sustainability at both local and global levels? How can well-defined reporting strategies help shape stronger relations between society, businesses, and the planet? In which ways are business and society, innovation and ethics interlinked? What are the ways with which sustainability can be measured and the goals can be met?

The autumn semester course is taught in English.

Õppeaine sisu lühitutvustus:

  1. Corporate social responsibility—the concept and the significance of ethics in business. Different frameworks. Analysis of different case studies on the ethical concerns within and external to various organizations.
  1. Argumentation and theories in ethics. Different forms of applied ethics, from technology ethics to work ethic, and the connection with business ethics and social responsibility.
  1. Sustainability—the concept, science, trends, ethics, and practices in organizations for tackling complex problems of today and tomorrow.
  1. Strategies, reporting, and communication of CSR across the countries and sectors in the European Union.
  1. Practical ethics—understanding the psychology of ethical behavior, and the role of leaders in ethic,. Organizational culture and ethics in management.

Hindamine

The students will present a business idea, prototype or report that focuses on the aspects learned during the course. The presentation can be done in groups. Before the final presentation there are 2 small case studies to acquire the needed concepts and context, which help to shape the final idea.
